PEJ ABC Margate entered five boxers into this year’s Manchester Box Cup, held at the Leigh Sports village leisure centre and televised live on Sky Sports.
The club walked away with three golds and one silver. Bodhi Underwood, 18, won gold after boxing in his first senior contest in the open class category. He fought against a very strong, older and more experienced opponent from Ireland.
Kian Hardy, 17, won gold by split points decision in a cracking contest against a very good opponent from Magic Hatton’s gym in Manchester.
Ashton Lovell, 18, won gold by unanimous points decision in a good bout against a worthy opponent from Manchester, forcing two standing counts in round three.
Blake Binskin, 22, picked up silver. He won his semi-final by unanimous points decision. The final was an absolute barnstormer against an Irish international with double the experience, who had recently competed in the world championships. There was a split points decision that could have gone either way.
Jake Glithero, 18, lost his semi-final bout against a very strong opponent from Jennings gym Manchester, giving way to age and experience in his first senior contest.
Coach Mario Michael said: “The coaching team is very proud of the boxers who gave 110% and superb performances from them all in a very tough competitive tournament.
“We would like to thank gym owner Malwai Nijar and PEJ Court Properties who continue to support the club and boxers.”
PEJ ABC is based at 17 Hatfeild Road, Margate.
Sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday – juniors 6pm-7pm, youths and seniors 7pm-9pm.
