This term, Newlands Primary children have enjoyed a visit from Kent Fire and Rescue and Kent Police.
The children participated in an informative and engaging presentation about Kent Fire and Rescue Service delivered by Max Parr. The children learned about why firefighters wear PPE (personal protective equipment), and what equipment and clothing they require for their PPE.
The children also learned how the Kent Fire and Rescue Service goes above and beyond for our community by doing rope rescues, water and mud rescues and animal rescues. The children especially enjoyed being introduced to Buzz, the adorable spaniel, who is a great helper to the firefighters.
Then, the children were very excited as they were taken out to see the Kent Police van. They had an opportunity to hear and see the flashing lights and sirens of the van, as well as honking the horn. The most enjoyable moment for many of the children was seeing the prison cell in the back of the van, and nominating their teachers, Miss Warner and Miss Bolden, to be put in the cell.
After this, Nathan Prentice delivered a presentation to the school, explaining all of the responsibilities of police officers, and how they also help the community. He also talked about the different items of clothing and helmets that police officers wear and some of the children were lucky enough to try them on.
Debbie Farbrace, Acting Headteacher, said: “It was a welcome and enriching opportunity for the children to understand more about the importance of our first responders. I am extremely proud of the school’s exceptional behaviour throughout the presentation, and how engaged the children were with this experience.”
