Ursuline College in Westgate has celebrated 120 years of providing education on the values of its foundress, St Angela Merici.
It is one of many Ursuline schools worldwide who all share the same guiding principle of Serviam, Latin for ‘I will serve’.
Today, Ursuline College Westgate is an inclusive, mixed 11-18 school community with children who are Catholic, non-Catholic, many other faiths and no faith at all.
Head teacher Dannii Lancefield said the fundamental principle of serving others is what brings the schools together and the celebration on Tuesday (September 17) included a livestream with a global network of schools in Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America and Africa.
Ms Lancefield, said: “We are incredibly proud of our heritage and to celebrate we came together as a school community for Mass with live streaming to some of our other Ursuline schools in England and across the world.
“Our Sixth Form students supported in directing our guests, our choir and orchestra led us in the celebration and our Year 11 Food Tech students provided all the catering for a wonderful reception afterwards. We are incredibly grateful to all our guests for taking the time out of their busy schedules to join us.
“We have so many children from all different walks of life in our school, of faith and of no faith, and we have something incredibly powerful that brings us together, not just here at Ursuline College in Westgate, but with our Ursuline schools globally.
“Our students were an absolute credit to themselves, their families and our school and we are exceptionally proud of them.”
