A vigil will be held in Ramsgate town centre following the death of Ramsgate dad Ashley Jones.
Cllr Raushan Ara has organised the event, saying she had known Ashley for several years and describing him as ‘kind, polite and friendly.’
Ashley’s life was taken in the early hours of Sunday, August 23 after he was stabbed in an attack in Harbour Street.
The 52-year-old was taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead.

Writer’s Space

Been putting off writing your novel, need time to finish your memoir, or got a great idea for a stage play? Once a month, at an event called Writer’s Space, Marine Studios offers support to local writers with free desks for a morning.
It’s part of the programme at The Writers’ Room , the only space dedicated to the development of writers in Thanet. The Writers’ Room provides a hub for writers of all backgrounds and means, and at different stages in their careers, to work alongside each other. It’s a space designed to bring together writers and members of the wider creative community, helping the local literary ecosystem to grow alongside Margate’s vibrant visual art scene.
Since it was founded, The Writers’ Room has provided desks for low-income writers who may not otherwise be able to access a regular work space. Most recently, Dan Thompson Studio subsidised two desk spaces, allowing Sarah Corbett, who is behind the Craftivist Collective, to start her new book, and dance artist Jodie Cole to develop a new show.
There are 12 desk spaces, with free coffee, sea views, solid wifi, and access to the studio library. Spaces are strictly limited and last month’s event was a full house.

Drawn Together: Sotto Bosco with Lily Buchanan

Join Turner Contemporary for a very special evening of still-life drawing, inspired by the 17th-century still-life painting genre of Sotto Bosco, led by artist Lily Buchanan.
Sotto bosco, Italian for ‘undergrowth’ or ‘forest floor’, celebrates the magical symbolism of the forest floor, and in this workshop, participants will do just that.
Come along, get lost in your drawings of this mysterious undergrowth world, and pick up some drawing knowledge from Lily along the way.
The still life will be made up of beautiful plants and flowers, borrowed from the Windmill Community Gardens in Margate, combined with everyday objects (commenting on the contemporary environment), set up for you to draw from on a lovely September evening in The Drawing Studio.
Everyone is welcome to these relaxed sessions, encouraging you to have a go and express yourself, whether you’re new to drawing or a seasoned sketcher.

Trains & Tractions At The Tunnels
5th September – 6th September, 10am to 4pm, Ramsgate harbour and Ramsgate Tunnels
Miniature traction engines will be running on the promenade beside the tunnels and at Ramsgate Harbour, just along the road.
They will be joined at the tunnels by miniature steam trains operated by both Canterbury and Ramsgate model engineering societies.
The free to enter model railway exhibition, showing 10-12 layouts, will be held in the tunnels themselves.
Rides on the miniature traction engines and miniature steam trains cost £1 per person.
Admission to the tunnels is free but a donation is always appreciated.
The tunnels will be organising its well known tunnels tours throughout the weekend – pre-booking is required – and the usual charges will apply for these events

Kent’s Iconic Coastal Walk

Discover one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in the South East on this guided 10-mile walk from Margate to Broadstairs
Beginning at Dreamland Car Park, then heading inland through the peaceful Thanet countryside before reaching the beautiful seaside town of Broadstairs.
Along the way you’ll pass open farmland and a traditional Kent windmill before arriving at the coast.
From Broadstairs, you’ll follow the stunning King Charles III England Coast Path, taking in dramatic white chalk cliffs, breathtaking sea views and some of Kent’s finest beaches. Highlights include Viking Bay, regularly recognised as one of Britain’s best beaches, the spectacular chalk stacks of Botany Bay, praised by Lonely Planet for its unspoilt sands and fantastic rock pooling, together with Joss Bay and Palm Bay.
Where tides allow, you’ll be able to leave the clifftop path to enjoy sections of the shoreline itself, giving a unique perspective of this beautiful coastline.
Returning to Margate… past the historic Winter Gardens, the bustling Harbour Arm, and finishing beside the iconic Turner Contemporary.
Moderate terrain, gently undulating with a mixture of inland paths, coastal footpaths and beach walking where tides permit.

Author and cook Thom Eagle discusses his new book The Allotment Diaries, a personal almanac of growing and remembering.
Thom Eagle is a freelance cook, writer and grower based in Margate. He has published several books prior to The Allotment Diaries, namely the acclaimed First, Catch and Summer’s Lease and last year’s The Philosophy of Pickles and Fermented Foods, and runs workshops based on fermenting, foraging and creative writing. He’ll be discussing the book with the wonderful Georgina Wilson-Powell, founder of Don’t Miss Margate and an author and speaker whose work focuses on sustainability.

Introduction to Handbuilt Pottery
5th September 2026
Go Create, 10.30am, Go Create in Margate.
A structured 2 hour introduction to handbuild pottery for those who are completely new to pottery and wish to both trial pottery whilst creating a handbuild functional piece. With their teaching approach you can expect to get your hands dirty and sculpting in the first 10 minutes. They’ll teach simple handbuild slabbing and coil building techniques as well as simple surface decoration.
At the end of the session you can decide if you would like to have your pieces fired and glazed for an additional cost of £4-£12/piece depending on the size and volume and is payable on the day.
Once you have taken an introductory handbuild class it is possible to book a 6 week structured introduction to handbuild pottery, book into casual studio sessions. They also run a week long intensive hand and wheel pottery course in the Summer.

The Hunger Games- 12A

All five films in The Hunger Games franchise are returning to Vue Westwood Cross ahead of the latest release in the series, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Fans of the saga can relive every moment of the dystopian series – from Katniss volunteering for tribute to the final battle for Panem – the way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen.
The original trilogy introduced audiences to the world of Panem and the annual Hunger Games, which sees tributes put forward compete to the death in a televised event.
Starring an ensemble cast – including Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland – the first film is screening from tomorrow, Friday 4 September.
The re-release coincides with National Cinema Weekend and, to mark the occasion, Vue is offering £4 tickets across all films and seats on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September — including The Hunger Games.
The entire season will last five weeks, concluding with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes from 2 October. Details here

Sound, Sand & Sea: Sound Bath on the Beach at Ramsgate

Join Eleanor for this multi-instrumental journey into sound beside the sea…
You’ll start with some gentle movement before practicing some vocal toning. Both of these exercises are used to relax and prepare your nervous system in order to better absorb the healing frequencies of sound, before being guided through a short meditation ahead of the sound bath itself.
You’ll be bathed in frequencies from a gong, Himalayan bowls, crystal bowls, chimes, framed drums, a shruti, vocals, and more.
What is provided:
– A padded mat (feel free to bring a yoga mat to put on the top if you want to double up for extra comfort)

A cushion (to support your head while relaxing)
