St Laurence Junior Academy in Ramsgate is looking ahead to an exciting new chapter with the appointment of a new leadership team who are passionate about building on the school’s strengths and ensuring every child feels valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
Mrs Louise Buckland has officially taken on the role of Headteacher, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the St Laurence community.
Having served as Deputy Headteacher for the previous four years and Assistant Headteacher for eight years before that, Mrs Buckland has been a familiar and trusted member of the school’s leadership team for many years.
Her career in education began locally at St Ethelbert’s in Ramsgate, where she started as a student teacher before spending eight years teaching and supporting children there. With strong roots in the local community, Mrs Buckland is delighted to continue her journey in headship at St Laurence.
“I feel incredibly privileged to be leading St Laurence Junior Academy,” said Mrs Buckland. “This is a school with a wonderful sense of community, where relationships matter and children are at the heart of everything we do. I am excited about the future and the opportunity to work with our pupils, families and staff as we continue to grow and flourish together.”
Supporting Mrs Buckland in the senior leadership team is Mrs Sarah Mountjoy, who has been appointed as substantive Deputy Headteacher and SENCo. Mrs Mountjoy joined St Laurence in 2017 as a newly qualified teacher and has developed a strong understanding of the school and its children. After being appointed SENCo three years ago, she has played a key role in ensuring pupils receive the individual support and encouragement they need to succeed.
“I am thrilled to be taking on this role at a school I know and love,” said Mrs Mountjoy. “St Laurence is a special place because of its people. Every child is unique, and we want every pupil to feel that they are known, valued and supported to become the very best version of themselves.”
Together, Mrs Buckland and Mrs Mountjoy are committed to strengthening St Laurence as a warm, inclusive and family-orientated school where children are cared for, challenged and encouraged to flourish.
At the heart of the school’s vision is the belief that every child should be seen, known and loved – noticed for who they are, understood as an individual and valued as an important part of the school community. Through a nurturing and enriching curriculum, the school aims to help children grow not only in knowledge and skills, but also in confidence, character and resilience.
