Ramsgate’s Sam Battle – aka Look Mum No Computer- may only have gained one point at last night’s Eurovision final but he remains upbeat.
The electronics enthusiast, who not only sung but also made his own set, posted to social media to say Bulgaria deserved the win with song Bangaranga, adding: “(I) met a lot of amazing folk. The most important thing is we all tried our hardest, regardless of what is against us. Whatever it may be.
“Gotta keep trying your hardest regardless of the outcome!!
The Eurovision jury may not have liked Sam’s Eins, Zwei, Drei – which came last with just one point from the Ukrainian jury – but Ramsgate was out in force to cheer him on at a Eurovision party on the seafront.
Among those who turned out to watch Sam on a big screen opposite the Queen’s Head was TV legend, and Ramsgate girl, Brenda Blethyn.
The actress said the atmosphere was great. adding: “What a great evening dancing in the rain. Wonderful atmosphere. Wine and delicious burger in Wandering Hut.”
Sam is affectionally known as the ‘professor of pop’ and is a ‘synth genius.’ His creations range from the viral Furby Organ, which has racked up more than 7 million views on YouTube, to the world record breaking ‘drone synth’ – officially recognised by Guinness World Records.
Sam also owns ‘This Museum is (NOT) Obsolete’ in Ramsgate’s Church Street, attracting visitors from around the world, keen to see its unique collection of electronic wonders and fascinating bits of technology.
Sam and his wife Dr Melanie King became parents to baby Max in April.
Th irrepressible musician will be off touring later this year with gigs in London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow lined up for November.

He may be local and seems like a very nice chap, but there’s no getting away from it: the song is absolute shiiite.

This result is no reflection on Sam. The world simply can’t stand GB as a country. The reason people arrive here in large numbers is the generous benefit system. I was born here, I am white and totally embarrassed, that’s why I am so proud not to have a UK passport. So Sam you should be proud of yourself, people were not marking you on your abilities, but on a post imperialist country.
Except the benefit system is not generous to them-just rhetorical rage-bait for the thick from right wing newspapers, Gbeebies/Talk TV & certain politicians-especially of course those that let arrivals get to record levels for their 14 years in power.
You should be embarrassed at the variety show put on at Little Tommy’s race grifting unite the single digit IQ thing yesterday-especially the out of tune ‘musical’ performances, some Asian guy waving bacon around, the three attention seeking women wearing Islamic garb & then disrobing & that the crowd had dwindled by half from the one last September. Post imperialist? Would you like to go back to invading other countries, stealing from them & enslaving them then?
Nope-he came last because his song was total garbage, just like most UK entries are-remember Gemini? We know also it is political & always has been-why the UK government got involved to gave Bibi maximum points-to try to crawl in some small way for not getting involved in the orange criminals illegal bombing campaign for them & just to remind them we still manufacture a lot of the weapons they use in their war crimes & genocides.

I find it surprising people always come up with the dob story of “we score badly because everyone hates us”. Really? Huw do you explain Sam Ryder doing so well a couple of years ago? Doesn’t really stand up as an argument or he would have not gone second. Might have come first in Ukraine hadn’t had war waged on them by Russia – Europ really resonated with their joyful battle cry in the form of Kalush Orchestra. Let’s stop feeling sorry for ourselves and instead address the issue of decent UK artists being too scared to face defeat. The Bulgarian winner made some great comments to the BBC in the run up to the competition that the UK artists seem very reluctant to give it a go in case they fail. Fragile egos by the sounds of it. I’m proud of Sam for giving it a go – no fragile ego there!

Sam is such a nice lad always says hello as we pass. So pleased he enjoyed his fantastic experience, a memory to recall forever. Ramsgate was behind him.
