Priory Infant School pupils have swapped their uniforms for scrubs, suits and safety helmets as part of a special “Big Me Day” designed to inspire children to dream big about their futures.
The exciting event invited children to come to school dressed for the careers they hope to pursue when they grow up, transforming classrooms into a bustling world of future professionals. Among the young dreamers were aspiring surgeons, a bank manager, firefighters, teachers and even a Disney Imagineer.
The day was organised to encourage children to think positively about their ambitions and the many opportunities available to them.
Deputy Headteacher Louise Joyner, who organised the event, said: “Big Me Day was all about helping children believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and imagination from every child and hearing them talk so confidently about their future careers was incredibly inspiring.”
Children also enjoyed a number of special visitors throughout the day. The Mayor of Ramsgate paid a visit to the school to meet pupils and hear about their ambitions, while a local PSCO spoke to children about community safety and policing.
One of the highlights of the day was the arrival of a fire engine, which proved hugely popular with pupils. Children were given the chance to climb aboard the engine, explore the equipment and even squirt the fire hose under the supervision of firefighters.
Headteacher Clare Sellwood praised both the pupils and staff for embracing the event. She said: “We are passionate about raising aspirations and helping children understand that their future possibilities are endless. Big Me Day created such a positive atmosphere across the school and gave children the confidence to dream ambitiously.”
The event was met with excitement from pupils and staff alike, with many children already talking enthusiastically about what they might like to become in the future.
