A walk in Dane Park on April 11 will be guided by tree expert Peter Hasted with participants able to discover what lies behind Hanami, the Japanese tradition of enjoying the fleeting beauty of flowers, especially Sakura – the blossom of the cherry trees.
Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers.
Peter Hasted, of Thanet Urban Forest, will guide you through the park, whilst sharing his knowledge of trees and the story of ‘Cherry’ Ingram.
Collingwood ‘Cherry’ Ingram grew up in Westgate-on-Sea where he gained his love of birds. He was and still is a much-revered ornithologist and cherry tree expert.
The walk starts at 10am. Be prepared for a 1 to 1.5 hour walk through the park, wearing suitable footwear – sturdy shoes or boots are recommended, with waterproofs and some water to drink.
There is a price range for tickets – £4, £6 & £10. All ticket fees will go towards supporting the work of Thanet Urban Forest CIC.
Thanet Urban Forest is increasing the tree canopy cover of Thanet, currently one of the lowest in England, by engaging with the community to plant, establish and promote trees, leading to long term adoption of the trees by the community.
