Emergency crews were called to a collision between a bus and an e-bike rider in Westgate yesterday (March 22)
Police and paramedics attended the scene in Canterbury Road at 5.50pm. The e-bike rider was treated at the scene for injuries, described as not life threatening, and then taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
The KSS air ambulance also attended but the rider was transported to hospital by road.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 5.50pm on Sunday 22 March to a report of a collision involving a e-bike and a bus in Canterbury Road, Westgate-on-Sea.
“Officers and paramedics attended the scene where the e-bike rider was treated for injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.”
A South East Coast Ambulance service spokesperson said: “SECAmb were called at 5:55pm yesterday (22/03/26) to reports of a collision involving a e-bike and a bus on Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea.
“Multiple crews attended the scene and assessed and treated one male patient before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity, Kent Surrey Sussex. The patient was then taken by road to William Harvey Hospital for further medical treatment.”
An air ambulance spokesperson added: “”A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to Westgate on 22 March.
“Our crew arrived on scene at 18:41 where they worked with SECAmb and Kent Police to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision.
“They then transported the patient to a hospital by road with our crew accompanying them in the ambulance to continue delivering their care en route. ”
An illegal e-bike rider (if it’s the one I’ve seen, he’s also usually smoking illegal substances).
E-bike rider! From a Hotel somewhere local, I see more & more everyday.
They should be treated the same as any other moped, and the rider should be wearing a crash helmet, and have insurance! Time these machines were licensed and had a number plate, that would stop reckless illegal use over night!

E bikes are illegal to ride in anywhere public, never insured and used on both roads and pavements by morons.
Only yesterday I was missed by inches (about 12) by one as I was shutting the passenger door of my car whilst I was on the pavement. If I had stepped back at that instance I would have been badly hurt by this silent and speeding mindless yob.

E bikes are limited to 250 wcoutput and 15.5 mph max. They are legal and anyone over 14 can ride them. E motorcycles and E mopeds are not legal unless they are design approved, insured, have an MOT and the rider has a licence. Kent Police and media cant seem to tell the difference in crash reorts
E-Bikes are perfectly legal if they conform to the quite restrictive u.k. law. Its morons that are the problem, they also manage to use cars and kill people with them. I say ban morons.
E-bikes are for people too lazy to peddle.

Or for people who, due to age or medical conditions, cannot pedal as effectively as they once could. They enable many people to cycle when they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so, and/or to travel further than they could manage on a conventional bike.
