Sandra Art4All, an art studio in Acol providing a platform for deaf, autistic and neurodivergent artists with learning disabilities, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Founded following the closure of the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate, Sandra Art4All is dedicated to helping artists with diverse abilities to develop personal and meaningful artwork, promoting expression and creativity.
Over the past ten years, the exclusive studio has become a cornerstone of the local arts community in Margate and specifically at The Margate School of Arts.
Sandra Hampton, founder of Sandra Art4All, said: “The journey over the last ten years has been tremendous.
“We are incredibly proud of our artists’ achievements, awards and recognitions and the support we’ve received from the local community. Our 10th anniversary is a time to celebrate and look forward to the future.
“We are especially grateful to The Margate School of Arts. We have seen the school and the gallery grow throughout the seven years we have been collaborating with them. We have seen our exhibitions grow alongside them and we have both benefited greatly from the experience.”
The Art4All studio was founded on a simple concept; that art is for everyone, a universal language that transcends communication barriers. A supportive, inclusive environment is provided -a place where artists can explore simple creativity processes, develop their individual artistic styles, gain confidence and most importantly, have fun.
At Sandra Art4All, the application and process are as important as the finished product. The artists are guided to make art independently or as a collaboration, tapping into their unique abilities and fostering a sense of freedom and self-expression that is not always heard in other settings.
The resulting work—a vibrant, eclectic collection of paintings, drawings and photography – challenges perceptions and highlights the immense ability within our community.
Sandra said: “When you walk into our exhibitions they don’t shout out disability, they shout out colour, they shout out joy.”
Over the past ten years, Sandra has witnessed remarkable transformations, helping artists develop their skills, build self-esteem and, with support, turn the studio’s artwork into enterprise opportunities, completing the full artist experience.
Some of the artists have exhibited at prestigious venues, including the Royal Academy and Turner Contemporary, gaining well-deserved recognition and showing the world the value of Artists with communication and learning difficulties.
Sandra Art4All remains dedicated to providing a platform for its artists, ensuring their extraordinary art continues to stand up for something bigger: a world that embraces diversity and celebrates every form of expression.
To celebrate a decade of creativity, resilience, and the sheer joy of making art Sandra Art4All will be collaborating with three Margate galleries this year.
The Luminal Gallery – The Cupboard.
‘Proud 2 Create TEN’ This will be the studio’s longest exhibition to date and the first time in a contemporary gallery.

The artists
Verbal and signed communication can be difficult for many of the artists due to the range of their needs. Some may walk into the studio with clear anxieties. The art workshops allow them to express themselves and relax, whilst producing beautiful works of art. Artists receive the majority of the profits from any sales of the artwork.
