Grosvenor Casino Thanet in Westwood Cross has rolled out 30 new slot machines and 90 new games following recent UK Government legislation which gave land-based casinos the green light to increase machine numbers for the first time in 18 years.
The rule change allows as many as 80 machines, provided that the ratio does not exceed five times the number of gaming tables and the floor space exceeds 500 square metres.
The 2025 Gambling Act Review, announced in May 2025 by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, is designed to support long-term growth in the land-based casino sector.
Since 22 July 2025, land-based (not online) casinos have been able to install additional slot machines, subject to council approval.
For Grosvenor Casinos, this means the rollout of more than 850 additional slot machines across its nationwide estate.

The review also brought in measures which mean detailed affordability checks will be required on players who lose £1,000 within 24 hours, or £2,000 over 90 days, and “passive” checks will be required for those who lose over £125 each month, or £500 per year.
A mandatory levy for research, education, and treatment (RET) into gambling effects needs to be paid by operators to the GB Gambling Commission.
