A wrestling extravaganza comes to Minster in January with the LWE Take Down.
Local Wrestling Entertainment brings together the local wrestling scene with collaborations from Essex Pro Wrestling Entertainment, British Wrestling Union, RESILIENCE Pro Wrestling, Venom Championship Wrestling and more.
Among those on the bill is Jensen Theory who was voted Southern Wrestling Hub ‘Wrestler of the year 2023’, listed in the Outsports top 200 LGBTQ+ wrestlers worldwide, GBWA wrestler of the year 2022 and Venom Championship Wrestling ‘Heel of the year’ in 2023 and 2024 and Savage Wrestling ‘Heel (villain) of the year 2024’.
His wrestling alter ego is arrogant and ruthless but also carries a message.
The 41-year-old, real name is Andrew Frewing-House, says as an openly gay wrestler he wants people to “encourage anyone to take up sport no matter who you are.”
Jensen, who runs theatrical ghost tours at home in Hampshire and is a radio presenter, came to wrestling later than most because of his reservations.
But since stepping in the ring some eight years ago, he says what he has found is a ‘welcoming’ environment and a sport he truly enjoys.
He said: “I started wrestling 7 or 8 years ago, trained at Quality Wrestling Academy and went on to work doing shows and got picked up by an American company.
“From there the BBC got in contact and then ITV and it all just kept coming.
“I won a few championships and that earned positive recognition. You never kn ow how things are going to go but should take the chance.
“It’s been a big challenge but genuinely welcoming.”
Outsports says there are now more than 800 gay, lesbian, bi, trans and queer wrestlers in the industry.
Jensen says he is looking forward to the collaboration which makes up the Kent shows, saying: “There’s lots of really amazing talent. There will probably be about 40 people and a rumble with 20 people.”
The show, at Minster Village Hall on January 24, promises high impact matches and big characters.
It takes place from 4pm to 8pm. Tickets cost £10.84 (incl booking fee) for adults and £6.50 (inclusive) for children.
