Footwear brand, Skechers, has today (Friday 19 December) opened its new store at Westwood Cross shopping centre.
The new Westwood Cross store is next to River Island in the Terrace area of the centre.
Shoppers can expect a wide selection of Skecher’s footwear ranges for all ages, alongside a selection of athleisurewear and accessories designed to support active, everyday lifestyles.
The opening of Skechers builds on a strong period of growth at Westwood Cross, following a series of well-received launches, including Captain D’s, Lovisa, Pandora and Rituals.
Fran Donovan, Centre Director at Westwood Cross, said, “Skechers is a fantastic addition to Westwood Cross, giving our guests even more choice when it comes to style, comfort, and everyday footwear.
“The brand joins a fantastic line-up of new openings and helps make Westwood Cross the go-to destination in Thanet for shopping, dining and family fun.”
Skechers arrives at Westwood Cross as the centre celebrates the festive season, with Santa’s Grotto and Christmas Cabins now open for families to enjoy alongside their Christmas shopping. The launch adds to the seasonal buzz at the centre, offering guests even more choice as they tick off last-minute gifts and enjoy a festive day out.
To help visitors plan their trips, Westwood Cross offers free parking and has announced its Christmas opening hours, including extended late-night shopping:

- Sunday 21st December: 10am – 4pm
- Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd December: 9:30am – 7:30pm
- Christmas Eve: 9:30am – 8pm
- Christmas Day: CLOSED
- Boxing Day: 10am – 5pm
- Friday 26th December: 9:30am – 7:30pm
- Saturday 27th December: 9:30am – 6:30pm
- Sunday 29th December: 10am – 4pm
- Monday 30th: December: 9:30am – 7:30pm
- New Year’s Eve: 9:30am – 5:30pm

Great. But you needn’t open Boxing Day!
Boxing day sales are most stores busiest day of the year, aside from NYD.
Unfortunately in Thanet they scrapped Boxing Day buses in 2020. Otherwise I might be tempted.
If it was closed, the day after Boxing Day would be one of its busiest days of the year!
Could we actually have something other than sports shops and cafes at Westwood.

We could do with a high-end bike shop, there are so many £1000 plus rolling around Thanet, the owners are obviously buying from elsewhere.
I’d like to see a decent record shop (there’s two in Whitstable!). Also, more fishmongers. For an area largely surrounded by sea, fresh fish and seafood should be easily available in every town and larg village.
(and don’t get me started on the lack of Banks!)
Yes Ms Dover. Once you know what you’re looking at, you can spot some very expensive bikes here in Thanet. Occasionally with bespoke frames too. If you keep an eye out, this coming spring you’ll notice a few Ribbles, and some carbon Specialised bikes.
How poncy-as said more money than sense. They probably wear Rolexes to pose as well.
Really? Must be the DFL arty farty crowd. Most of the people I see riding them around are 300 quid at most.
Once again like the art stuff we aren’t London or Brighton-I am sure posers with more money than sense are happy to waste a grand on a pedal bicycle in those areas, but this is a run down, deprived area. Not many will have 1k to spend on a bike, they will go to Halford’s at Westwood-where you can get an electric bike for a grand, Ken’s Bikes etc. Very much a niche audience & they would be out of business in a year or less.
The last bike I bought cost £150 from the shop in Westbrook in 2011, and I still cycle 100’s of miles per year on it. Expensive bikes don’t make people fit: regular usage + a sensible lifestyle does.

There are so many Canada Goose winter coats around here, costing north of £1000. And the latest Apple Watch. Not to mention all the cars costing over £25K.
