Year 1 pupils at Callis Grange Nursery and Infant School in Broadstairs have been exploring changes within living memory through their current topic on Victorian toys.
To enrich their learning, the children were treated to a special visit from Hornby staff, who gave an engaging and hands-on workshop all about toys across the ages.
The team from Hornby brought an impressive collection of toys from different periods in history, allowing the children to see first-hand how toys have changed over time. They discussed the different materials used—such as wood, tin, fabric and plastic—and explained how these reflect developments in technology and manufacturing.
The children were fascinated as they compared Victorian toys with the modern ones they know today, exploring how design, safety, and play styles have evolved. Their curiosity shone through as they asked thoughtful questions and handled the toys with great excitement.
The session helped bring history to life in a meaningful, memorable way.
