Two senior staff running Manston processing centre have been suspended and are under investigation for misconduct, the Guardian has reported.
The staff are employed by contractor Mitie which runs operations at the centre processing those who have arrived in the UK via small boat.
The Guardian reports that the Home Office and Mitie have confirmed the suspensions and investigation but have not provided reasons.
A Mitie spokesperson said: “We hold our people to the highest standards and take allegations about staff misconduct very seriously. Where allegations are made, we will immediately investigate and take appropriate action where necessary.”
Mitie says a senior team is in place to ensure the continuation of operations as usual and care and custody staff work to high standards and professional conduct.
The centre has been under scrutiny since it was established due to overcrowding, protests, outbreaks of disease and poor quality accommodation which were highlighted when the site came under pressure in 2022.
An inquiry into allegations about Manston processing centre dating to 2022 is also currently underway.
The independent inquiry into the treatment of individuals detained at the Manston facility and conditions during the time period is chaired by Sophie Cartwright KC and opened in March.
The scope is to look at events between 1 June 2022 and 22 November 2022. There have been complaints that the Inquiry has been facing significant delays.
The site is due to have an upgrade to infrastructure and facilities and a planning application will be dealt with through the Urgent Crown Development route.
The aim is to continue using the site for its current purpose and to make improvements which include:
A new Reception Centre to replace the existing centre operating on site, consisting of up to six buildings.
A new training facility for staff and equipment for training.
Redevelopment of the existing entrance to assist with traffic management.
Additional surface car parking
Installation of additional lighting, CCTV and utility requirements.
Installation of new fencing to the site boundary.
New small-scale on-site waste treatment centre to sustainably manage waste water from the site.
The planning application is under consideration by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). It will be determined by the Secretary of State.

When you typed ‘BOARDERS’ in angry, shouty block capitals (always the sign of a highly trained mind)… did you mean people staying in hotels or perhaps getting on and off of some form of transport?
Or are you just foaming at the mouth so much it prevents you from being able to write in sentence case and spell simple English words words like ‘borders’?
That’s not a very patriotic approach to the English language, regardless of how many flags you attempt to engage in reproductive acts with.
I’m guessing English isn’t his/her/their first language.
If we controlled our borders this needn’t be an issue!
Where is all this money coming from? Perhaps we should stop listening to the human rights whiners and give them jobs like cleaning our streets, repairing pot holes, etc and make England a better place to live. Why should they be kept in nice accommodation, warm, feed , clothed and kept safe when we have an English born population living on the streets, and low income families struggling to buy food? If they didn’t get this treatment they would come here, our countries regulations encourage so called asylum seekers. At the current rate they are coming hear we will end up being the refugee camp of Europe.
They should not even be here.

Did I miss something? All the improvement appear to be happening to staffand reception areas, and not alleviate the conditions of those kept in captivity.
I agree that better solutions need to be found to control the flow of immigration so that people can apply to emigrated here legally and so boost our tax paying population.
In the meantime we need to be humane and understanding, think what it must be like if you or your family were in the same position, and learn to treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves.
