Palm Bay Primary School is launching its Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) initiative, transforming break and lunch times into creative experiences for pupils.
The school says play is fundamental to childhood and essential for children’s wellbeing. A spokesperson added: “Through OPAL Play, our pupils will develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, resilience, and creativity while having the best time possible during their school day.
“We want to embrace every opportunity to help our children thrive through adventurous, imaginative play.”
The school has already had donations and offers of help from businesses and Palms Landscaping has built an amazing mud kitchen for the school field but now an appeal is being made for donations of materials
A school spokesperson said: “To create this amazing play environment, we’re asking our local community and businesses to donate materials. We’re committed to being as eco-friendly as possible by repurposing items that would otherwise be thrown away, giving them a new lease of life in our children’s play.”
Palm Bay is looking for:
- Toys: Lego, building blocks, toy cars, dolls, action figures, dinosaurs, farm animals
- Creative play: Old pots, pans, kitchen utensils, dressing-up clothes, paints, brushes, chalks, old pushchairs
- Den building: Large fabrics, sheets, curtains, netting, rope, hammocks, teepee tents
- Construction: Car tires, cardboard boxes, plastic crates, buckets, wooden planks, wooden crates ,cones, empty electrical
- Outdoor equipment: Guttering, piping, watering cans, wellies, water barrels, storage sheds, scooters,
