Under a clear blue sky, parades were formed, the exhortation read, the Last Post played and two minutes silence held as Thanet marked Remembrance Sunday today (November 9).
Residents across Thanet turned out to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
Veterans and cadets, councillors, mayors, scouts and service organisations such as the RBL, RNA and Merchant Navy and RNLI, police and rescue organisations raised and lowered standards and wreaths were laid.
November 11 is Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11am in 1918, with Remembrance Sunday always the second Sunday in November.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
In honour of this milestone year a special installation has been added to those displayed in Cliffsend.
Parish councillor and resident Beryl Harrison, 86, has created silhouettes of soldiers, as well as a horse, a dog and a pigeon, which can be seen at Bakers Field, Chalk Hill, outside the village hall, the cross at Cottington Road and on the Sandwich Road.
This year she has added to the Bakers Field display with a maypole with poppies, a poppy covered soldier, sailor, airman, Land Army, Red Cross nurse and Tommys. The installations include 80 poppies to mark the 80th year since hostilities ended.
Beryl said: “This year is a most important year. In five years time, when there is the next celebration, there will be no WWII veterans left. Most have gone so this is the last time.”

i watched some of the rememberance at the cenotaph today , as usual the royal family have been in the dressing up box , for todays outfit Charles was a field marshal ? he was not even in the army , let alone of this high rank , if anyone dressed up like them they would be detained under the mental health act.

so – i take it you can say what you like , and call people offensive names . however others are not entitled to an opinion in what at the moment is still a free country ? it must be wonderful to be so up oneself.
According to the web he was awarded the honorary rank of field marshall in 2012. So yes he is eligible to wear the uniform. ( though seemingly not on terms you agree with)
Beautiful and moving service at St Georges, with the Thanet Big Sing Community Choir providing some very poignant songs that brought home the realities of the suffering of war.
It’s a shame the photographer missed out all of the scouts,cubs,beavers, rainbows, brownies in the photo.
They were all a credit to their Broadstairs groups and their leaders should be very proud of them, well done.
