At St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery in Ramsgate the mission is ‘high expectations for all, in the Light of Christ’, and this begins in the Early Years.
The nursery children have settled into Term 1 well and are getting used to the rules and routines and enjoying the calm and creative nursery environment.
The school’s learning environments enable children to access a range of resources independently and foster a love of reading, writing and maths.
A school spokesperson said: “We want the children to explore the world around them in an environment in which they feel safe and secure and where they can thrive as independent learners. They have particularly been fond of using the mud kitchen and water areas in their large outdoor learning area, as well as taking part in role-play and a range of mark making activities.
“Each term, the children base their learning around a topic, this term being called ‘Marvellous Me’. They have been learning about each other, their similarities and differences, their families and how to be a good friend.
“The children have already been showing kindness, teamwork and learning and demonstrating a range of skills, including taking part in our onsite Forest School.
“It is important for our children to be happy, independent and confident learners and have the ability to take risks in a fun and engaging environment.
“We have highly trained staff who all know the pupils very well and so are able to engage in purposeful play alongside the children, as well as move their learning forward and support each individual need.
