Upset allotment holders in Ramsgate are appealing for help to find five Sussex chickens that were stolen from the site.
The chickens, owned by plot holder John Moosab were swiped from the Stirling Way Allotments sometime between 7:40pm on August 28 and sunrise the following day.
Fellow allotment holder Graham Attwell says John has been keeping chickens for around a decade and this group had been on the site for the last four years.
He added: “We checked the whole place but there was no sign of a break in. Whoever it was came equipped with tools to remove hasp and staple from the woodwork of the chicken run without damaging the padlock.
“There musty have been more than one person because you can’t just get them and put them in a bag without making noise, this was all six chickens so it’s quite a big thing.”
John says the loss of the chickens has been very upsetting.
He said: “They have taken these from an elderly gentleman who has had chickens for a long time.
“I was very upset as well. My grandson only came to see them a couple of weeks ago and now he wants to buy John a new chicken, he’s only 10, but he wants to help him ‘restock.’”
Fellow plot holder Natasha Bizarra said: “I miss them as they were right by the entrance to the allotments on John’s plot and the first ones to welcome you every morning. A lot of the people on the allotments have said the same.
“I don’t know who would do such a thing.”
Plot holders are hoping someone may have information to help them find, and return, the chickens.
A report of the theft has been made to Kent Police.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police received a report of the theft of five chickens from Stirling Way Allotments, Newington.
“It was reported to have taken place between 7.45pm on Thursday 28 August and 9am the following morning.”

I think we can rule out foxes,and the usual suspects. You would have to know where the chickens lived, and come prepared.Those allotments are overlooked on one side by a road and houses, anyone wandering around with torches would be seen, and you have to have a key to get into the allotments, as there is no sign of forced entry.Its not an opportunist crime, it must have had some planning.

Clearly Newington and Ramsgate(aside from the Rich) is in desperation. Prices are high. Jobs are nowhere or not worth it. Refugees are Scapegoated by the angry working class. The rich eat well. But how many kids in Newington get a good chicken dinner or the equivalent in a week? This place is suffering hard and people need a universal basic income to survive. However, Child Poverty is not a problem according to the middle class.
Oh dear – check those smoking, covered n expensive tattoos, drinking, meals delivered etc. That sums up many whose parenting skills are very limited. I was bought up by parents with standards in late forties with no National Health service or handouts. Hence, my despair at some of today’s me me brigade!

Apart from Fred the angry former allotment tenant others seem to either disparage people living in Stirling way or excuse theft on the basis of poverty.
I agree entirely that those on the minimum wage with kids are finding it tough out there,and food banks are not the answer.Neither is stealing,it is wrong and for the victim heartbreaking.
Axe grinding helps no one especially not Mr Moosab. RTC might consider better security for the site,as a practical measure,though what measures can be adopted are not clear to me.
