Two talented young artists from Thanet have achieved national recognition in the prestigious Rotary International Young Artists Competition.
Nine-year-old Kornelia Plowy was named the overall national junior winner, while Bonnie Basford, aged 12, triumphed in the Art Intermediate section as a finalist.
The competition, held annually by Rotary International, encourages young people to express their creativity through art.
Locally, the Rotary Club of Margate supports this initiative through its Thanet Art Festival, which this year received entries from over 600 pupils across 36 schools in the area.
While Thanet pupils have participated in the national contest for many years, this marks the first time local artists have won at national level, making it a historic achievement for the community.
Both Kornelia and Bonnie are students of Lana Arkhi, an artist and teacher at Kent Talents Studio in Broadstairs. She praised their hard work and creativity.
Brian Homewood, youth art co-ordinator of Margate Rotary Club, said: “This remarkable success shines a spotlight on the wealth of artistic talent among young people in Thanet and highlights the value of local arts education.”
