Ramsgate’s annual carnival and fair returns this weekend.
The fair on Government Acre runs on Saturday and Sunday (July 26-27) with the parade setting off on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday activities on Government Acre run from 10am to 8pm
10am -noon will be the dog show with 10 categories, No need to pre book, £2 entry £5 three categories, extra discount for more. Rosettes and hand baked biscuits prizes, sponsored by Frankie’s Doggie Diner Peggy Lou’s Dog Bakery.
Throughout the day there will be free arts and crafts workshops and the fun fairground rides run until 8pm.
At 3pm there will be the Giants Parade by Great British Carnival and there will be a DJ at the bar from 4pm.
Lil_jockeys will be there both days with their ride on cuddly animals.
There will also be a dog agility area all weekend with Smooch a Pooch booth and pool ball pit. This is raising funds for Ramsgate Carnival and sponsored by Frankie’s Doggie Diner and Ramsgate market Bray Markets.
There will be other fundraising stalls plus Giant Beer Pong, sponsored by Slice Ramsgate, and adopt a cuddly pet sponsored by Frankies Doggie Diner.
Trade and craft stalls will also be on offer.
The Scouts will also be present with volunteers
On Sunday the fun runs from 10am to 5pm.
There will be a sensory area sponsored by the amazing Differences not Disabilities, the mini pop up Sunday market with former Manston and favourite Ramsgate market
Sand Art, glitter tattoos , face-painting and seaside wares will also be on offer and there will be a Sunday service with Ramsgate Salvation Army, Buddhist area, Hoop a penguin, Phases Pole & Aerial Studio and more.
The carnival parade sets off at 4pm and has a shorter route this year, travelling from Government Acre along Royal Esplanade, St Augustine’s Road, Paragon and Royal Parade, up Harbour Street, along Queen Street and Westcliff Road then down Grange Road and back to the starting point.
Highly disappointing this is not going via Plains of Waterloo.
East Cliff doesn’t matter for the Carnival obviously.
I’m mobility challenged and won’t be able to see the carnival now as the poor relation, The East Cliff, is excluded from the route. First the lift being closed stopping me getting to the harbour and seafront now I can’t see the carnival.
It’s sad that the route has had to be shortened. The original route was several hours long for participants and was particularly difficult for the children and other participants with mobility issues. Unfortunately the need for vehicles to drive up Madeira Walk one at a time in order to prevent overheating and breakdowns, meant the carnival parade becoming fragmented from that point, and taking even longer for the walkers, dancers and drummers to be exposed to the heat and sun.
Won’t be going down grange rd either as that’s shut for up to three weeks due to a sinkhole
