The Minister for Employment has visited East Kent Colleges Group’s Broadstairs hotel, The Yarrow, to see firsthand the impact a new Government-backed training programme is having on upskilling jobseekers.
Alison McGovern MP, Minister for Employment at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) spoke with students undertaking the HospitalitySwap programme, before hosting roundtable sessions with the college’s leadership, and employers that are working with EKC to deliver the new course.
East Thanet MP Polly Billington was also present during the visit.
The training programme, which has been developed in collaboration with UKHospitality, ensures that jobseekers are developing the skills that employers in the sector need, with guaranteed work placements and an interview with a choice of employers upon completion.
Successful participants in the programme also receive a digital transferable award certified by OCN London and accredited by UKHospitality called a ‘Hospitality Skills Passport’ to demonstrate their competence and qualifications.
Chief Executive of East Kent Colleges Group, Lucy McLeod, said: “It is fantastic to showcase this exciting new provision to the Minister, and to give her the opportunity to speak directly to our learners to understand the impact it’s making on their lives.
“Across our Group we have always been committed to delivering transformative opportunities for those within the communities we serve, and this new qualification will help to ensure the hospitality sector is getting the skills it needs to continue to flourish and grow.”

“Sector-Based Work Academy Programmes – or SWAPs – are an important part of this, offering training, workplace placements and a guaranteed interview to jobseekers.
“Our hospitality SWAPs pilot, launched in partnership with UKHospitality, will help businesses find talented staff to fill the thousands of roles available in the sector.”

She voted against assisted dying,so I suppose that is another black mark against her,for the possee above.
By the way Roger Gale didn’t even vote on the assisted dying bill, so what sort of statement is that!
Polly spends more time on radio 4 Westminster hour talking a load of nonsense, normally bigging up starmer on why we should go to war with Russia!
She obviously picks and chooses who she wishes to see as the aggressive nations of this world to make pointless political statements.
Not for me-for once I commend her. Many people who could live/don’t fall under what this was supposed to cover will die due to this, unless the Lords blocks it-Leadbetter promised to put in safeguards, didn’t & now it is a licence for the government & NHS to kill those deemed not worthy of living that the government have already shown total disdain for since last summer-disabled, elderly, people with eating disorders etc.
Just look at what has happened in places like Canada, Netherlands etc where it was supposed to be for a hardcore of extreme cases & it more resembles Aktion T4.

Well, what what you call a government wanting to give Euthanasia to Canadian Paralympics & other disabled people who just wanted ramps, stairlifts etc to improve their lives & were asked if they wouldn’t prefer a state administered death instead as they are a burden according to the ‘liberal’ Trueadau administration?
The 29 year old Dutch woman with depression who self-harmed, but no termninal illness who was granted permission to die via it & is now dead?
People who are able to go to Switzerland, pay money, sign a form-giving details that they haven’t got any terminal illness & in the guy from the UK’s case not even a diagnosis & they end your life? The year after another woman who had depression went to the same clinic, paid her money, signed the form & was then murdered.
