Keen environmentalists at St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary have been honoured by the Royal Horticultural Society.
The school received a Level 2 Award from the UK’s leading gardening charity in recognition of the fantastic work being done by its Gardening Club and the wider school community.
Head Teacher Taralee Kennedy said: “We are delighted with this honour. It reflects the dedication and enthusiasm of our children, staff, families in supporting and sustaining the natural world.
“It celebrates our ongoing efforts to grow plants, improve our school grounds, and nurture a love of nature among our pupils.
“The green-fingered dedication, means this award sits alongside our silver Wilder Kent award. It is a great team effort and we are so lucky to have such a dedicated leader for outdoor learning in our teacher Abigail Hall.”
As part of a year-round and expanding commitment to the environment, St Nicholas has once again supported the annual worldwide Earth Day with its own version of the initiative.
Children were busy making seed bombs and bird feeders, and they created beautiful natural necklaces. They also expressed their artistic flair with mini beast artwork and nature collages.
To top it off, they had great fun with bubble wands and mixtures, and even enjoyed a relaxing session of yoga out in nature.
Mrs Kennedy added: “It was a fantastic blend of eco activity and, awareness, creativity and mindfulness.
“It was a huge success. The children loved the activities and working outside. These experiences connect them to our wonderful world and will leave a lasting legacy of care and love for the planet.”
