Young people in Thanet will have the chance to hear from local experts in green careers this week, thanks to a partnership between Co-relate Communication CIC and Power of Women Thanet.
The free workshops, aimed at 16-25 year olds, are taking place on 11 April in Ramsgate and 12 April in Margate.
Participants will hear from Louisa Harris, who lectures in Sustainable Business at Cambridge University’s Institute of Sustainable Leadership.
Other local speakers include:
- Rachel Cox, Climate Change Project Coordinator, Thanet District Council
- Rosanagh Fuller, CEO, Power of Women Thanet
- Lindsay Reynolds, Climate Change Manager at Thanet District Council
- Ross Walker, Director, Bon Volks
- Rob Yates, UK wind farm industry expert
There will also be a tour of nature-first furniture designer Sebastian Cox’s workshop, studio and showroom in Margate on Saturday.
The interactive workshops will explore the skills needed for green careers and will help young people to create a career action plan.
Co-relate managing director, Jessica Rose, said: “Green jobs and skills are terms we’re hearing a lot but it’s often not clear what they cover or how to get them. These workshops will introduce young people to the range of jobs and local organisations in this growing sector. As a pilot project, they’re a chance for us to learn how best to bring young people and organisations together to understand the skills needed now and in the future.”
Friday’s workshop, ‘Lead the way: skills and careers in sustainable business’, will explore sustainable careers with a focus on business action and the circular economy. It will take place at 9.30am at Pie Factory Music in Ramsgate.
Saturday’s workshop, ‘Be the change you want to see: making climate action happen’, will focus on creating change through policy-making, campaigning and community action. It will take place at 9.30am at Marine Studios in Margate.
