Thanet children had the opportunity to make a splash at a swim programme organised by the founders of Ramsgate non-profit company INTL Education CIC.
Jess and James Marsh run the education CIC which offers tailored programmes and include a database of learning materials, calendar of events and map of learning places for people to use the ‘world as your classroom.’
The couple, who live in Ramsgate with their six-year-old son, ran the swimming programme from December 2024 to this February thanks to funding from the Government’s Social Enterprise Boost Fund, supported by Social Enterprise Kent (SEK).
Experienced instructors from organisations such as Your Leisure and Stacy’s School of Swimming were involved and children of all ages and abilities were taught in small groups at the Upton Pool in Broadstairs and Hartsdown Pool in Margate.
The programme catered to various skill levels, from beginners to more advanced swimmers. Participants could also work towards Swim England Awards, earning certificates and medals for their achievements.
Stacy said she was pleased to have collaborated on the programme, adding: “I’m so keen for people to have access to swimming pools and/or lessons so that they can enjoy the water – especially as we are surrounded by it here in Thanet.”
Jess and James run a ‘Worldschooling Quest’ community with free access to different teaching and learning resources.
Jess obtained a Masters in Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology and has lived in several countries, working in schools as well as being a Google for Education program manager and contributing to educational articles and text books.
James is a Google certified educator and has taught in the UK and internationally.
