Properties in Thanet hit by water supply and power cut issues

Properties in parts of Broadstairs, Ramsgate and running up to Margate have lost water supply this evening (February 6).

The affected areas run from Northwood up to St Peter’s Road, and across Westwood.

It is believed there is a burst main in the Rumfields Road/Northwood area.

Southern Water says it is aware and teams are en-route to investigate.

Properties in the same area and in Dumpton have also been affected by a power cut this evening due to a fault with an underground cable.

Initially a power cut just after 5.30pm affected 5783 properties. Power has been restored to most properties but 166 are still affected.

UK Power Networks says: “Specialist engineers from our control room will continue to divert power remotely, so your power may come back on at any point.

“Sometimes we can’t restore everyone this way, so we’re also sending staff to check our equipment. We’re currently estimating power will be on by 20:30-21:30, but this may change depending on what our staff find.”

UPDATE

All but two homes now have water restored and all properties have power restored (7.30pm)

A Southern Water spokesperson said:“Our team has acted swiftly to isolate the issue on Northwood Road, and all homes have had their water supply restored.

“Two commercial units are currently without water.  We’ll continue to work into the evening to fix the problem and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
