A seven-year-old from Ramsgate has raised hundreds of pounds for Pilgrims Hospices as a thank you for the care given to his ‘Nanny B.’
Finley Dyer’s great-nan Barbara was looked after by the hospice charity in 2021 and the Chilton pupil decided he would dance on the driveway outside his home to try and raise awareness and donations to help support Pilgrims services.
Finley’s dad, Chris, said: “Finley’s fundraising started off as a couple of pounds and then exceeded £100, and now he has a JustGiving page showing an incredible £835 (plus Gift Aid).
“The thought was if he managed to get £10-£20 from people / dog walkers going past it would be nice. In the 30 minutes he got £4.51.
“He asked if he could do it again for an hour the following morning and would I put it on facebook so family and friends could support him. He did between 9am-10am and had great support from friends, family and school friends.
“We then got messages from friends, work colleagues and local businesses who were offering to donate to him.
“Our thanks go out to the kind support and donations of passersby who generously donated to Finley.”
Finley said: “I danced and sold my old toys on my driveway as I wanted to help people who are poorly and need Pilgrims’ care, because they looked after my Nanny B.
“I hope my fundraising helps others, too. If you want to raise money for Pilgrims Hospices you can do the same. Merry Christmas, everyone!”
Pilgrims’ community fundraising manager Karen Kenward said:“Chris called me to let me know what Finley had done through his own initiative, and I was absolutely amazed at the total he has raised to date, which is still increasing.
“Finley’s family and friends are so very proud of him, and his JustGiving page keeps growing. What Finley has achieved is just wonderful. At just seven years old, to have this idea to support our charity’s cause is just incredible.
“We at Pilgrims, his dad Chris, and his family and friends, are so very proud of Finley’s amazing commitment. His school has also recognised his commitment to our charity. Each year, Pilgrims Hospices care for thousands of people across east Kent, with services provided from its three hospice sites in Ashford, Canterbury, and Thanet, as well as in patients’ own homes. It costs over £17.2 million annually to run these services, much of which comes from the generous support of the local community.
