QEQM Hospital League of Friends
Patients and visitors on Rainbow Children’s Ward at the QEQM Hospital are now benefiting from the provision of 10 overbed tables and 12 stackable chairs funded by the Hospital’s League of Friends at a cost of £2,708.
Acute Child Health Matron Emma, (accompanied by Play Leaders Terri and Olivia, along with QEQM Hospital League of Friends Chairman Sylvia Pheils and her fellow trustee Linda) said:“Thanks so much to the League of Friends for funding our bedside tables and the new brightly coloured chairs for our waiting room. The chairs have really brightened up the waiting area making it more welcoming and fun. The bedside tables are in use daily with children able to sit comfortably for their meals and also using them for craft and play activities.”

Margate WI
Margate Women’s Institute has raised over £800 by holding a pop-up dinner evening to support a local good cause.
Proceeds from the ticketed meal and raffle will benefit the Garden Gate Project, which is based near Northdown Park and assists those with mental health issues and disabilities through the power of gardening. The organisation will receive £820 as Margate WI’s chosen charity of the year.
The Autumnal-inspired three-course meal was held on Saturday 9 November 2024 and was hosted by the WI’s president, Hilary Askew (pictured above), with assistance from WI members and Hilary’s family.
The latest fundraising efforts by the WI received a lot of support from local businesses, including the International Food Centre in Northdown Road who donated a lot of ingredients, helping to keep costs to a minimum and ensuring more money raised for a good cause.
Hilary said: ‘We’ve been so overwhelmed by the brilliant support from the store – their staff also worked with us and advised what ingredients would work with our meal ideas. That, coupled with the donations for our raffle from other businesses, meant it was a real community effort.
‘Diners also got a reminder of the great work carried out by the Garden Gate Project, as they donated butternut squashes to help us create a real seasonal feast for all.’

17th Ramsgate Scouts
We’ve opened a new Scout group in Ramsgate called 17th Ramsgate at St Marks Church. We are looking for more young people to join our sections as well as adults to help volunteer within their community – no previous experience needed!
We have two sections running every Saturday:
Squirrels – aged 4-6 – 10am-11am
Beavers – aged 6-8 – 11.15am-12.15
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn Skills For Life, make new friends and feel part of the community. We have a fantastic team who are looking to expand so would love to hear from you if you’ve like to get into Scouting!

Copperfield Court Care Home
In celebration of ‘Community Week’ at East Kent College, Copperfield Court Care Home, which is part of Oyster Care Homes, had the pleasure of hosting a visit from the talented team at the Yarrow Spa Hotel.
The visit is part of a wider initiative to support local care facilities, bringing specialised beauty and wellness services directly to the residents.
The Yarrow Hotel team, consisting of Zoe, Trish, and Amy, brought a wealth of experience and professionalism to Copperfield Court. Zoe, who has managed the Yarrow Hotel salon for the past eight years and boasts 17 years in the beauty industry, was accompanied by Trish, a skilled stylist with five years at the hotel, and Amy, a senior therapist with extensive experience in holistic therapies, including work aboard cruise ships. This visit marked the first time the Yarrow Hotel team had offered their services in a care home setting, and they were warmly welcomed by residents and staff alike.
Residents received a variety of treatments, from soothing hand and head massages to nail painting, which provided not only relaxation but also a delightful shared experience. The Copperfield Court team also enjoyed the treatments, enhancing the sense of community within the home. Incorporating holistic therapy is essential to promoting the wellbeing of both residents and team members, creating a joyful and nurturing environment.
Reflecting on the visit, Trish commented on Copperfield Court’s inviting decor and praised the attentiveness and cheerfulness of the team. Zoe noted the positive feedback from residents regarding the high quality of care they receive and their evident happiness.
Eve Balcombe, Registered General Manager at Copperfield Court, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative: “The Yarrow Spa Hotel’s visit has brought such joy to our residents and team alike. Community Week has been a wonderful opportunity to welcome the Yarrow team, and we look forward to more collaborations that enrich the lives of everyone here.”
The Yarrow Hotel, based in Broadstairs, operates as part of East Kent College, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience after completing their qualifications.
