Parents have been welcomed back to the classroom to explore how their children are progressing in Maths and to find out more about the subject at Newington Community Primary School, Ramsgate.
The learning event involved the whole school from Nursery to Year 6, and it gave parents a chance to sit in and be involved with lessons
The idea is for parents to engage more with Maths and find out how to enjoy and support learning of the subject by their children.
It is also a great way for adults to break down barriers they may have to the subject from when they are at school – Maths is taught in a positive, fun and informative way at Newington.
Parents immersed themselves into a wide range of activities with their children, using a range of manipulatives and mathematical strategies to learn new skills and solve challenges.
Assistant Head Teacher Hannah Raven said: “It was lovely to have so many parents come in to support their child’s learning. It was a chance for them to see Maths in action and how we teach children new mathematical concepts.
“The children embraced this special moment and loved the opportunity to teach their parents
“As a school, we are committed to fostering a strong partnership between home and school, and we are thrilled to be holding more events in the future.”
Head Teacher Hannah Tudor added: “This was another successful initiative where our families become part of our pupils’ in-school learning.
“Our Maths team work diligently and thoughtfully to create easily-accessible and fun learning sessions to suit all age groups and abilities to encourage the most positive outcomes.
“We pride ourselves on giving our children the very best start in life and we all believe that our Maths programme helps them immeasurably in a very important curriculum subject.”
