A Broadstairs man has been charged after police officers in Ramsgate were alerted to a suspected drugs deal on Monday 11 November.
Proactive patrols were taking place in the Ramsgate Harbour area when officers became suspicious of two men in a car. One man got out of the car and was stopped and spoken to by officers. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug, with a search leading to the recovery of cash, mobile phones and a white powder believed to be cocaine. The man has since been bailed while enquiries continue.
The car was stopped by officers a short while afterwards and the driver was detained. Following initial enquiries, the driver was arrested. Related searches were carried out and a large quantity of a substance thought to be cocaine; cash and various banking deposit receipts were seized.
On Tuesday 12 November, Jamie Child of Salisbury Avenue, Broadstairs was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession of criminal property.
Mr Child, 43, appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court later that day and was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 16 December.
Funny how they can never proactively police Thompsons passage which see’s an average of two or three deals per hour. Swear if they set cameras up at the top, bottom and middle alley of said passage, they’d cut Ramsgate’s drug trade in half within a day. the amount of deals I see when the school kids at chatam are going between the upper and lower sites is astronomical. Users usually going back to the alleged crack den on Clarendon Gardens, or sitting on the benches there to roll up/hit a pipe.

The case against Jamie Child has now been dropped. He is no longer on remand. Turns out that the powder in his sports bag was creatine monohydrate and protein powder!
