A boxing and fitness group owner is expanding his business once again with the opening of a ‘fight club’ in Ramsgate town centre.
CG Fitness Group boss Connor Gorham will open the doors to his newest venue CG Fight Club, above Plan Burrito Mexican restaurant and Kids Brighthouse, on December 1.
The journey to his ‘dream gym and location’ has been a rapid one – just three years ago Connor was starting out with a plan to build a boxing ring in his dad’s back garden and then moved on to premises in Sharp’s Place.
One year later, the gym’s popularity prompted a move to larger premises at Copperleaf Business Park in Broadstairs with wife Bree managing wellness sessions with the ‘help’ of the couple’s then one-year-old daughter Malibu.
And now, the business returns to Ramsgate with a focus on building a ‘positive’ community.
Connor, 30, said: “It’s crazy to say we have got to where we have, all from an idea building a wooden boxing ring in my Dad’s back garden.
“Now, just three years in, the hard work has finally paid off and we have our dream gym and location. It’s been a crazy rollercoaster ride and I will never forget the ones that helped me when things got tough, that’s why it’s so nice to now be able to give something back and help others too.
“There are many good gyms in the area and it’s great to see it, but there’s only one fight club. By this I mean whether it’s fighting in any sort of combat, fighting fat or just fighting the demons in your head each day, we are here to help you win that battle!
“Although we are proud to have produced a BK world champion and multiple blockbuster shows this year, it’s really not about hand picking the best and most talented, but more importantly giving everybody an opportunity to become the best version of themselves and building a more happy and positive community.
“I feel this is definitely what our town needs and am very grateful to be in the position to continue this journey in the heart of Ramsgate.”
Having the new gym above Plan Burrito and Kids Brighthouse – CG entrance on Broad Street – means not only is there a much larger, fully equipped space but children can be occupied if needed downstairs when waiting for their sibling to finish and gym-goers can grab a bite to eat after their session to refuel.
Connor added: “Our aim is to provide a family environment where people feel at home, with friendly vibes and approachable staff. I have chosen our colour scheme to be green because it’s a positive, colour and also represents mental health awareness.
“We are planning to have a lounge area where people can make themselves at home, have a chat and watch some TV. They can drop their bag off in the changing rooms and can help themselves to refreshments before and after a session without feeling like they have to leave right away.
“We cater for all ages, genders and abilities with many different classes on offer. We also offer 1-2-1 personal training and private group sessions from fully licensed and qualified professional coaches, including support and advice on diet and nutrition.
