Reception children at Monkton C of E Primary, have been busy making the most of the Autumnal sun and have been out and about looking for signs that Autumn has hit their village.
From crunching leaves to fallen acorns, the children were excited to spot the Autumnal changes within their semi-rural surroundings. The children had a wonderful time collecting leaves, nuts, berries and other Autumnal things to take back to their school to explore. One child said: “I found a nut that has been eaten by a creature. I think it was a squirrel or a mouse.”
Once back at school, the children used their senses to explore their findings and then turned them into some fabulous woodland creatures. Who knew leaves, twigs and acorns would make such wonderful creatures? The children used their developing ‘Expressive Arts and Design’ skills to cut, stick and decorate some very creative owls and hedgehogs.
Jessica Bax, EYFS Leader, said: “It is so important to offer our children real-life experiences and to give them the chance to explore the world around them. With our topic being all about Autumn, we wanted our children to see the changes for themselves.
“We are very fortunate to be able to use our semi-rural surroundings as an exciting learning tool. Not only in Reception, but throughout our whole school.”
The school’s Reception children will be heading back out once Winter hits to see what changes they can spot next. Hopefully, they might get lucky and even see some snow.
