College Road in Margate was closed following a collision this afternoon (September 20) where two people were injured with one being airlifted to a London hospital.
The closure was both ways from A254 Ramsgate Road (Victoria Traffic Lights) to A255 St Peter’s Road (Animal Hospital Double Roundabouts) after the crash involving a motorbike and a car.
Police and paramedics were in attendance.
A South East Coast Ambulance service spokesperson said: “SECAmb were called at approx. 2:50pm to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on College Road in Margate.
“Crews assessed and treated two people at the scene, before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity, Kent, Surrey, Sussex who airlifted one patient to Kings College Hospital for further medical treatment. The second patient was discharged at the scene.”
An air ambulance spokesperson added: “A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to Margate on 20 September. Our crew arrived on scene at 4pm where they worked with SECAmb and Kent Police to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision. They then transported the patient to a major trauma centre by air.”
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to a report of a collision involving a motorcyclist and a car in College Road, Margate at 2.55pm.
“Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment.
“Officers are working to reopen the road following an earlier closure while the incident was responded to.”
The road reopened just after 5pm.
Something has got to be done at this junction, there’s an accident there every week or two, probably people jumping the lights as usual, maybe put cctv so when lights change the cameras can catch the vehicles that jump this junction all the time .

People drive down the hill on the other side of the road to take short cut up Perkins Ave to avoid lights, bound to hit something sometime.
Nothing to do with roads! It’s the terrible driving in Thanet! Don’t believe most people have ever read the Highway Code! Quite true about people driving down the wrong side of the hill to turn right at the carpet shop. If you’re just about to start to move down to the lights and someone shoots down the side and cuts in front of you there’s no chance. Amazed there aren’t accidents here every day! As far as the double roundabout at the top by the vets, people just make up their own rules.
It’s all true. That road and the junctions both ends of it are quite a challenge, the standard of driving is horrendous. Feel like there should be traffic cops permanently stationed there. But the occasional presence of anything resembling a policeman or woman would be a start. I’ve started giving myself a pep. talk re. the need for 100% vigilance before even getting into my car.
The pavement area on the left as you drive down is too wide and hardly used. There could be a another lane there nearer the junction to turn left into Yoakley Square which would alleviate the pressure on the traffic lights further down. But, KCC are set on widening pavements everywhere making driving more dangerous and causing jams everywhere.
Agree Kent resident,not width of footpath,but with other narrowing especially now in Northdown Road,mishaps already.But by making Yoakley Square one way traffic ,with no entry from College Road would stop the pressure ,it was considered a few years ago,by nothing came of it
Whats causing the worst problem at the moment is the closure of St Peters Rd. If people stopped blocking the roundabout in a rush to get somewhere traffic would have flowed a lot better, but generally driving all around has become a nightmare and not just in Thanet, why have drivers stopped signally so that other road users know where you are going or is it a mind set that I know where I am going so hard luck
