Ramsgate teen graduates from Infinity Tennis coaching apprenticeship

Jack Pegden has now graduated as a professional coach

A Ramsgate teenager who has been playing tennis since he was five-years-old has graduated from a coaching apprentice programme.

Jack Pegden, 18, has completed the two year scheme with Infinity Tennis, which works across East Kent, and is now a professional coach as well as a talented player.

The apprenticeship programme at Infinity Tennis was established in response to a growing shortage of tennis coaches in East Kent. It aims to cultivate coaching talent from within its pool of young tennis leaders, offering them a pathway to pursue a career they can be passionate about.

The programme not only provides invaluable opportunities for young people like Jack, who possess a passion for tennis and an innate ability to inspire others, but it also helps retain future leaders within the local community.

Gavid has helped Jack hone his skills over the course of several years

Infinity Tennis boss Gavid Vickers says Jack’s passion for tennis was evident from the first day he stepped onto the court. His natural talent led his coaches to say, “He’s going to be good!”

Jack’s playing skills on the court have resulted in numerous tournament victories, including becoming Thanet’s youngest ever men’s singles champion. Most recently, he was crowned Kent Men’s Champion 2023 at the County Championships—a testament to his dedication, hard work, and love for the game.

Gavid said: “School may not have been Jack’s favourite place but when Year 11 ended, he was keen to explore his options. After discussing possibilities with his parents, we decided to embark on an apprenticeship. This decision has proven incredibly rewarding for both of us.”

Over the past two years, Jack has developed into a confident, knowledgeable, and professional coach. His accomplishments during his apprenticeship include:

  • NVQ Level 4 Sports Coach
  • NVQ Level 2 Community Activator
  • Level 2 Tennis Instructor – Distinction
  • Level 3 Tennis Coach – Distinction
  • Certified Tennis Referee and Court Supervisor
  • First Aid at Work Certification
  • Safeguarding Training
  • Coaching Disabilities Qualification

Jack has also gained valuable business skills, including web design, lead and sales management, administration, and programme management—skills that will serve him well as he continues his coaching career.

“Having known Jack since he was just five years old, I’ve watched him grow both as a player and as a person,” Gavid said. “Beyond his accolades and qualifications, it’s Jack’s subtle confidence, kind heart, and overwhelming patience that make me most proud. These are the attributes that will ensure his success in the years to come.”

As Jack steps into the next chapter of his journey, Infinity Tennis encourages anyone looking for a free trial group lesson or one-on-one tennis lessons or wanting to learn from one of East Kent’s best players to reach out us
