Kevin received the best care from the team on Kingston ward

A family donated £500 to thank staff who cared for their beloved husband, dad and grandad in his final days.

Tina Wells, daughters Sam and Katie, and family, wanted to express their appreciation to the team on Kingston ward at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Kevin, 71, was admitted after suffering a stroke in May and the family said the care he and they received was ‘absolutely fantastic.’

They described Kevin as a loving and caring man who would go out of his way to help anyone. He loved Formula 1 motor racing, listening to music, holidays, and above all spending time with his family. Kevin worked in retail until his retirement.

Tina said: “We lived in Margate for 49 years before moving to Ramsgate last year.

“Since moving, Kevin and I had a new lease of life, going out for meals, making new friends, attending shows, swimming three times a week, and Kevin winning a trophy for bowling.

“We had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, filled with love and laughter. We are a strong family and have done everything together.”

When it became clear Kevin would not recover, the family were offered options for his care, and decided it would be best for him to stay on Kingston ward.

Tina said: “We knew the team would be there to hold his hand if we could not.

“We couldn’t have asked for better care. The staff made an incredibly difficult time feel a little easier due to their support.

“Even at the very end the team gave us time, space and the support we needed. We would like once again to thank all the staff on Kingston ward for the wonderful care they gave Kevin and us all.”

Donations to Kingston ward, via East Kent Hospitals Charity, were requested instead of flowers, and loving friends and relatives helped raise £500 in his name.
