Pub landlord’s honeymoon prompts meal giveaway plan to help Margate people in need

Jonathon and Jason's honeymoon has prompted the meal giveaway

A pub landlord in Margate has pledged to give away home cooked food for free to help the isle’s homeless and those who are struggling.

Jonathon Wood was prompted to organise the giveaway, which will take place next week, while on honeymoon in Brighton with husband Jason.

The Northern Belle boss says the couple have seen so many people on the streets and in need during their ‘mini’ honeymoon that they felt compelled to do something to help those in a similar situation at home.

Jonathon and Jason were married at the Northern Belle during last weekend’s Margate Pride event. They then set off for Brighton but will be back on the isle later today (August 14).

Jonathon said: “Me and Jason went to Brighton on our mini moon and even though it was lovely we saw so many homeless people and just people in need.

“It really hit home how  Margate families struggle, homeless people, single people, just people in general, and we want to try and help others.”

On August 22 from 2pm there will be home-cooked food at the Mansion Street pub, served for free for anyone in need until the food runs out.

Jonathon said: “The meals will be served in takeaway containers, no questions asked, turn up take it away and eat. There is no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed.”

Jonathon is asking anyone who wants to help or donate food to get in touch.

He said: “We are wanting to do a large variety of meals, meat and vegetarian/vegan, and are currently looking for any kind of food donations or supermarket vouchers that will help towards this.”

If you would like to help, call Jonathon on 07909328356 or message the Northern Belle facebook page.
