Thanet cousins join forces to launch business The Rug Sanctuary and take on first employees

Cousins Harrison and Billy have created The Rug Sanctuary

Two Thanet cousins have joined forces to launch a new business, with three new jobs now created.

Harrison Woodward and Billy Thomas, both from Margate, opened The Rug Sanctuary at Manston this January and have now taken on two office staff and a full-time trainee.

The duo both own separate businesses, with Harrison running construction firm Woodward and White Interiors Ltd and dad-of-one Billy heading up Nels Carpet Cleaning company, but decided to take the plunge for an additional venture.

Dad-of-three Harrison said: “Billy and I are both driven by the same things, we always want to earn a pound. Nothing has ever been given to us, we have always worked for it.

“Billy’s company is quite successful and I did a big construction project in Margate and had a bit of funding left over and said ‘if there is anything anyone wants to do, I’m all ears.’

“Billy had an idea so I said send me the numbers. We had the conversation about it in November and were up and running by January.

“It’s going really well, better than we could have imagined. You do not expect to take anything out of a new business for the first two years but I think any money borrowed from the construction company I will be getting back by the end of the year.

“We started out with just Billy and myself but now have two girls in the office for admin and a young lad that we are putting through the training we did and he is with us full-time.”

The Rug Sanctuary is based at the Maple Leaf Business Park and Harrison says investment has been made for top of the range facilities.

The 33-year-old said: “We are one of the most advance off site rug cleaning facilities in Kent, if not the UK, and certainly the only one of its kind locally.

“Our machines have been made specifically for our business and no expense has been spared to ensure our customers rugs are receiving the most advanced and safest chemicals on the market, even down to importing products from Europe.

“Both of us have undergone the best training by globally renowned professionals and some of the most respected professionals in the carpet and rug cleaning sector.”

  1. I used the services Billy offered at the beginning of the year (Nels Carpet Cleaning) and can fully recommend him. A rug 8’x 4′ needed attention, Golden Retriever and Ragdoll cat lounging on it as they do, hair ingrained, difficult to keep clean and fresh and pet dander free. What a pleasant surprise when Billy returned the rug, looked brand new, absolutely amazing.

Just have to add, used to have the rug cleaned twice yearly by A N Other company and never returned anywhere like that offered by Billy.

Wish him and his cousin every success.
