Chapel House Estate in Minster gains approval for new glass courtyard venue space

How the courtyard will look

Chapel House Estate has gained planning approval to create a new oak-framed glass courtyard.

The new venue space will be in addition to No 9 Restaurant and the lounge bar and means a new chapter for the Estate.

Construction will begin this December, using local builders and suppliers. The Glass Courtyard, featuring an oak frame, will transform the venue into a stunning setting for intimate weddings, birthdays and other special occasions. It will also provide an ‘alfresco dining experience’ for restaurant patrons, regardless of the weather conditions.

A Chapel House spokesperson said: “This innovative space will complement the existing buildings, seamlessly blending modern architectural design with the estate’s timeless charm. “Much like a kitchen in a home, we believe the Courtyard will become a unique and sophisticated hub where guests will want to linger and enjoy year-round.”

The glass courtyard will feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls to flood the space with natural light, creating a bright and inviting space; advanced heating and cooling systems, bi folding doors and a retractable glass ceiling and is designed to be fully accessible.

Chapel House Estate owner Darren Ellis said: “We are thrilled to have received planning permission for the new Glass Courtyard. This new development reflects our dedication to continually enhancing our couples’ and clients’ experience.

“The modern elegance of the Glass Courtyard with its oak frame, handcrafted in England, will add warmth and character and in doing so will seamlessly blend with the historic charm of the ancient Estate, gardens and farm vernacular, creating the perfect setting for dining and unforgettable events.”

Since its launch in July 2022, Chapel House Estate has won awards for its service and setting which includes a wild apple orchard, meadows, repurposed historic buildings, including a chapel built in 1290, and luxurious accommodation.
