Over the course of two memorable days, more than 250 students from Years 7, 8, and 9 at The Royal Harbour Academy went on an exciting and educational reward trip to London. The trip was designed to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and provide the students with experiences beyond the classroom.
The students embarked on a guided river cruise on the River Thames, enjoying breathtaking views of London’s iconic landmarks. The cruise took them to Westminster, where they began a comprehensive walking tour of the city’s most famous sites. Highlights of the tour included:
- Houses of Parliament: An up-close look at the seat of the UK’s government.
- Westminster Abbey: The historic church where British monarchs are crowned.
- Parliament Square: A bustling public space surrounded by significant buildings.
- Whitehall and Downing Street: A walk through the heart of the British government, including the Prime Minister’s residence.
- Horse Guards Parade: Witnessing the ceremonial changing of the guard.
- St James’ Park: A serene picnic in one of London’s most beautiful parks.
- Buckingham Palace: Viewing the official residence of the British monarch.
- Trafalgar Square: Exploring one of London’s most vibrant public squares.
The activities provided students with an opportunity to witness firsthand the historical and cultural heritage of the UK. Many of the students had never experienced London in this way, and the trip served to ignite their curiosity and ambition.
