Bitterness and Tears

Creative local couple Sharon and Philip Page’s joint show of their paintings, drawings, and sculptures at Ramsgate’s Front Room gallery.
“Bitterness & Tears” might sound like a depressing title for a show,” said Sharon “but it’s solidly tongue in cheek”.

“We were at a party, and a fellow guest was amazed at us having been together for almost forty years and still being very much in love.” explained Philip Page, “They thought it would all be bitterness and tears by now, and we thought it would be a great name for a show.” “In reality, it’s a fun show, with something for everyone.” said Sharon.

Both have had shows at the Front Room, Sharon with the very successful “Menagerie” last summer, and Philip with “Toy Art” the year before. This year they decided the time was right for a joint show, even if their work is quite different.
“Bitterness & Tears” is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11am – 5pm.

Wild Edges presented by POW Thanet.

Exhibition by Rebecca Douglas at Albion House Hotel in Ramsgate

Wild Edges is an exploration of the places where nature’s raw beauty and human curiosity meet. It is about the fringes, those liminal spaces where the known gives way to the unknown and the wilderness calls us into the mystery of the untamed.

Each photo is a story. Stories tap into the deepest parts of our humanity. They help us unravel what we know and challenge us to reimagine all that is possible. The exhibition invites you over a threshold to a place where nature’s messages are amplified, entwined with my own story and how I came to meet those boundaries and wild edges within me.

Includes two new photo stories, ‘Snorkelling with Diving Gannets,’ and  series, ‘New Earth from Above – Sundhnúkagígar Volcano Iceland.’ There will also be a curated collection of images from Thanet from Up and Under and from adventures in nature at the wildest of edges!

A portion of the profits from Wild Edges sales will be donated to POW Thanet to support the work they do in celebrating creativity that champions equality across Thanet.

Wild Edges will run from 25th July – 25th October, it is free to access

You can find out more about Wild Edges here: https://rebeccadouglas.co.uk/wild-edges/

Community Gardening Day

July 27, 10am to noon

Come along to the Community Gardening Day and take part in the Big Butterfly Count at Sunken Gardens in Margate

The Big Butterfly Count is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of our environment simply by counting the amount and type of butterflies (and some day-flying moths) we see. Help understand how butterflies are moving as the climate changes.

The Big Butterfly Count is a nationwide citizen science survey run by Butterfly Conservation. Launched in 2010 it is the world’s biggest survey of butterflies. Alongside the beauty that they add to our gardens, parks and green spaces, butterflies are a vital part of the ecosystem, both as pollinators and within the food chain. As indicators of a healthy environment and healthy ecosystem, by taking part in this citizen survey you are helping to conserve our natural world. It’s important not just for our butterflies, but for the wider environment and biodiversity in general.
