Free mental health first aid courses for community and voluntary groups in Thanet

Courses with CMK Training Academy

Changing Minds Kent CIC (CMK) is offering a variety of free Mental Health First Aid courses this year to help train and support the community and voluntary sector in Thanet.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, CMK has launched its new Training Academy. The academy will provide organisations and individuals involved in helping and supporting others the opportunity to gain more skills, awareness, and knowledge about mental health and wellbeing.

CMK is a not-for-profit wellbeing provider based in Westgate. Established in 2017, their aim is to assist residents and organisations with peer support, wellbeing coaching education, and training opportunities to promote the health and wellbeing of local communities.

CMK has recently worked closely with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver a series of wellbeing coaching programmes across Kent to support employability and received further support from the Colyer Ferguson Trust to produce a new wellbeing magazine to support parents and carers of young people with a cancer diagnosis.

CMK Head of Programmes Claire Parsons said: “We are excited to offer this training free to Thanet residents working or volunteering in the VCSE sector to help educate, inspire, and raise awareness about supporting someone experiencing poor mental health. Improving our knowledge and skills in this area can help people receive help and support at an earlier stage, and aid in reducing stigma and promoting community connections.

“As part of our broader National Lottery work, we will also collaborate with partners to deliver various peer support groups and coach education to further promote health and wellbeing in the area.”
