Cliftonville Hockey Club victory over Kent Police team

A win for Cliftonville Hockey Club

Report by Cat Doherty of Cliftonville Hockey Club

We entered Folkestone Optimist’s Summer League, and had our first match last night, Friday 28th June.

There was an uncertain tone to the start of this game with the Kent Police being a newly formed team. Cliftonville’s strategy to play heavy in defence to size them up, paid off. After the first 10 mins, Tinashe scored the opening goal with some great stick work.

The commitment from the squad was amazing with Dan, Izzy, Kat, Lena and Tinashe holding the middle on rotation. Up front we had super-sub Ollie who held his own with a tackle to a Police Officer and winning free hit. Gabriel and Jen were working together to disrupt the flow of the oppo’s defensive, which lead to two more goals in the first half by Dan.

After inspiring words from Captain Dan Mess at half time, the squad ploughed on. The solid wall of defence with Charlie, Alex, Harriett and Paula led by their EPIC Goalie, Jamie, meant the Kent Police had no chance of getting on the score line.

The second half showed two more goals being scored by Dan! The score line is no doubt due to the fitness and stamina of the players. Some great hockey was on display, well done all!
