An 83 year old man has been arrested and witnesses are being sought after a teenage girl was hit by a car in Broadstairs this morning (June 28).
A grey BMW car was travelling in Broadstairs Road when it was involved in a collision with the girl at the crossing near the junction with Green Lane.
The collision took place between 8am and 8.20am.
The teenage girl suffered a serious injury and was airlifted to a London hospital.
An Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex spokesperson said: “A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to Broadstairs on 28 June.
“Our crew worked with SECAmb and Kent Police to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision. They then transported the patient to a major trauma centre by air.”
An 83-year-old man from Broadstairs was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and taken into custody.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or were in the area and might have dashcam footage which could assist, to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 28-0256.
lets hope when this idiot is caught they are sent to prison for a very long time !

Do you know the events leading up to this collision , oh an old person ran into someone must be his fault ! Was it one of many schoolkids that just spew out into roads , on their phones , chatting with mates , not even looking around at possible dangers ?

i have noticed they have a suspect , i hope he does not play the age card , he should not have been even driving by the sound of it.
No one knows they have made a mistake until they have made it.

well I hope the girls ok and maybe have another driving test to see if my elder is still fit for driving I’m sure this will be with him for how ever long he may have left and has we don’t really know the full outcome I would rather not speculate yes it’s sad a young person has been seriously hurt and I really hope it’s not life threatening she will be in my prayers
The authorities granted the driver a licence, so instead of blaming the drivers, who may, or may not have had a health problem, ask the question, why was a licence granted.
Or even wait until everything has been investigated and verified to determine what actually happened.
Aren’t you rather presuming that age is the issue?
RTCs happen for all sorts of reasons.
Or does he even have a licence to start with?
Hope the young girl pulls through to a full recovery and that the law changes regards to “being fit to drive”.
Only a week ago some poor lady was seriously hit on Newington Rd and still now news on that driver being caught or more importantly how she is!

Quite right, the man driving could’ve been anyone at any age, also have you seen the way kids cross the roads many without due attention and many on their phones. Agree wait for the results of the investigation.

I was there this morning and witnessed what happened. There is a young girl in a serious condition and an 83 year old man currently in a police cell. It was an accident and believe me he is also in a state. Let’s be respectful for him and his family but most importantly the young girl and her family.
At least the driver didnt leave the scene , unlike other incidents recently !
