Alison set to serve customers for final time before retiring after 20 years at McDonalds

Alison retires today after 20 years serving customers at McDonalds

A dedicated McDonalds worker from Ramsgate retires today (May 10) after 20 years of serving customers.

Alison Pryor is one of Thanet’s longest serving lobby hosts with the fast food giant, starting out at the Ramsgate branch in February 2003.

When that branch closed in 2015, mum-of-two Alison moved to the Westwood outlet where she has been ever since.

The 65-year-old said: “I work in the lobby, serving customers and clearing away after them. I’ve loved meeting all the people and you get to know your regulars. A lot of people have said they will be sad to see me go and I have been given a couple of presents.

“Although the restaurants have had refurbs and things have changed with the kiosks you can order from now, my job has not really changed, I talk to people and help them when they need it.”

Husband Bob, who ran Ramsgate’s Blitz Walks for some 22 years, says her retirement will be ‘an end of an era.’

He added: “She’s always been almost a welfare auntie to not just the older people, listening to their troubles. She still gets stopped in the street with people saying ‘I remember you at McDonalds. Customers miss her when she away and bring her gifts of homemade cake.

“I’m very proud of her, but so are her customers and fellow staff.”

Westwood McDonald’s manager Richard King said staff have some gifts lined up for Alison as well as a service plaque.

He added: “Alison is really lovely, always happy doing whatever is asked and she gets on with a lot of regular customers that she has built up a rapport with.

“She will be very much missed.”

Nan-of-two Alison says she has no firm plans, other than spending some more time with her family and ‘taking things easy.’
