The Bannatyne Group is expanding with the opening of a hi-tech, low-cost gym – Just Fitness by Bannatyne – at the former DW Fitness site in Westwood Cross.
Due to open its doors in the summer, the new gym will create up to 12 new jobs.
Just Fitness by Bannatyne Broadstairs will offer state-of-the-art equipment, high-energy fitness classes and professional fitness experts all under one roof.
The 20,000sq.ft. gym floor will include:
- Six Olympic lifting platforms
- Nine squat racks
- A range of selectorized resistance equipment
- 108sq.m of state-of-the-art functional and cross-training space
- A dedicated glute training area
- Three fully equipped training pods
- Six dedicated combat stations.
The two dedicated fitness studios will host an extensive range of group exercise classes, all included in the membership, and the specialised group cycle studio will offer Les Mills RPM on demand.
Working in partnership with fitness brand Les Mills members will be able to choose from a range of exercise classes and virtual Les Mills classes will also be available in the studios with both scheduled and ‘on-demand’ slots available.
The Bannatyne Group already operates a health club and spa in Westwood and existing members will have access to the new site as part of their membership package.
Duncan Bannatyne, chairman and chief executive of the Bannatyne Group, said: “Just Fitness by Bannatyne Broadstairs will be a hi-tec, low cost gym.
“It will provide an alternative to our full-service health club and spa at Westwood Farm and members at that site will be able to use the new Just Fitness gym as part of their membership.
“This investment demonstrates our confidence in the town and will provide a number of jobs for local people.”
Fran Donovan, Centre Manager at Westwood Cross, said: “We’re extremely excited to welcome Bannatyne to our community, and pleased to be able to provide a low-cost health and fitness offer for local residents and visitors.
“Our partnership with Bannatyne is an excellent opportunity to increase our leisure offer locally, and we’re looking forward to working with the team at Just Fitness.”

How many gyms do we need around here,I’ve heard that there is going to be another one at minster service station with all these gyms there should not be any fat people around thanet
Thanet must have some very fit people by the amount of gyms in the area.
We need a decent size swimming pool that is not cold or often
not available to the public because of the school’s using it. If I won the lottery I’d open a very big indoor aqua park for all those who like swimming and playing in water.
We need OUTDOOR pools, like there were in Ramsgate and Margate in my youth!
New business is annoyed/opens.. first responses are people whining about said business because it’s not specifically for them. ‘What if this thing was something completely different.. for the kiddies!!’
Ian there are lots of things for the kiddies if you look around Thanet. One of the cheapest pleasant things we and our grandchildren love doing is kite flying fresh air, no fees, simplicity in itself, the children, as well as the adults look up at the kite in amazement at the time the kite stays up there in a gentle breeze fresh air, no fees, simplicity in itself.
I’d likely to see Hartsdowns old pitch and putt turned into an outdoor fitness center I.e. running, cycling and anything else that will fit.
As an occasional cyclist and a former runner, I’d much rather have the freedom of the seafront promenades than the restrictions of a pitch!
To many cyclists on the seafront promenades , they are a danger to pedestrians, they all think they are Bradley Wiggins
I’m an elderly woman. The only danger I am to pedsetrians is blocking their way by going too slow!
There is a difference between a bike ride and a race which many cyclists think they are in. And I expect that you have a bell.
Hartsdown park is large enough to have an outdoor sports facility. I’m not talking about the football club, they do great things for the community already.
