A pleasant but breezy evening at the WW Martin Community stadium as Ramsgate hosted local rival Faversham Town, with opponents Folkestone Invicta awaiting the victors in the third round.

Ramsgate kicked off playing toward the town end of the ground, with a few of the squad players taking their place in the starting line up. The 9th minute and a promising Rams attack as Takaloo shot wide. The  11th and Rams broke, Takaloo to Oladipo who crossed to Rowland who got the ball tangled in his feet.

The 17th and Faversham were down the right, crossed just over the head of the on-rushing Wood.. Faversham  had a couple of long range efforts but then went straight at Bexon. The 21st and a Rams free kick just outside the 18 yard box, McIntyres effort into the wall dropped for Richards to shoot powerfully into the arms of Fanshawe.

Oladipo picked up the ball and made a good run into the box, again the shot was straight at Fanshawe. The 26th and Peck had a great opportunity but no power as the ball rolled to Fanshawe. Rams generated a bit of pressure, Oladipo’s crossed ball runs to Takaloo who fired into the side netting. The 29th and Rams enforced sub Richards off for Jadama. The 33rd and Oladipo had another great opportunity lobbing the keeper close in but over the bar.

The 36th and Jadama gets onto a loose ball in the box shooting low and hard across the keeper who managed to keep it out and the follow up from Oladipo was snuffled out. The  40th Rams undone from a deep corner played back across the box for Aydin to toe poke the ball home.

The 47th and a Rams attack, Jadama shoots and the keeper loses the ball. The follow up from Rowland given as offside but Rams showed some intent at the start of the second half. The 56th and Rams gave away a free kick on the edge of the box. Wood struck for goal and into the bottom corner for Faversham’s second. Faversham made a sub bringing off Aydin for Codd.

The 64th and both sides made subs, as the game became scrappy, Rams got caught up in a battle and picked up a couple of yellow cards, the threat upfront from the Rams seemed to have diminished. The 71st and Wood played through one on one with Bexon saving with a stretched right boot, to keep Rams faint chances alive. Rams struggled to connect against a Faversham side that were playing for places under their new manager.

The 80th and Oladipo broke free between two defenders, running in but shooting into the side netting. The 81st and Emptage broke up, playing the ball into Redwood who had time to set himself and shoot. A super save by Fanshawe. A Rams corner played into the box bounced around before coming to Coyle all of 25 yards out, hitting an absolute perfect strike beating Fanshawe’s out-stretched hand. Rams made their last sub as Miller came on to try and equalise.

The 87th and Faversham gained another free kick, out wide right and Carlton smashed the ball into the wall and Rams cleared. It was a grandstand finish as Rams went all out to level, winning back to back corners, but the Faversham defence held firm. We entered 5 added minutes, a valiant last ditch effort from the Rams but wasted opportunities with poor decisions in the final ball. As the ref blew for full-time it was Faversham progressing.
