True Outsiders Unite exhibition in Margate with Pete Doherty, Tracey Emin and 70 Thanet folk in photos

The True Outsiders Unite show

An exhibition by Kurdish artist Zehra Dogan which was due to be held at the Joseph Wales Studio in Margate has been postponed but organisers have come up trumps with an array of top quality art to show at the venue between February 4 and 28.

The True Outsiders Unite show will include work by artists Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Annabelle Losa and Nick Reynolds as well as Libertines frontman Pete Doherty and exhibition organiser Dean Stalham, from the Stretch charity.  The opening night (Tuesday, February 4) will also feature poets and free drinks and nibbles from 6pm.

The gallery will be emblazoned with 70 huge posters of local people taken at the end of last year for the Inside Out global art project.

Artist and TED prize winner JR called for the creation of a global participatory art project. Inside Out features large scale portrait walls at locations across the world. Each Inside Out work is documented, archived and exhibited online. More than 260,000 people have participated in 129 countries.

Guest speaker for the opening night is Carlotta Allum, CEO of Stretch Charity.

Stretch delivers arts projects with prisoners, ex-prisoners, homeless, mental health groups and young people in care. The aim is to make the arts accessible to some of the most vulnerable people in society. Projects can cover visual arts, photography, creative writing, and media skills.

The charity has headed up award winning projects in partnership with museums, galleries, artists and writers and for the past 6 years, delivering digital storytelling projects and championing the role of unheard voices and ‘outsider’ art.
