Thanet Age UK has received a £3000 boost.

The charity received the cheque from Margate’s mayor and mayoress Mick and Shirley Tomlinson this week. The money comes from the proceeds of their charity dinner and dance held at Winter Gardens last November.

The windfall will be used for services such as the Buddy Box meal delivery scheme.

The charity, based in Zion Place, Cliftonville, provides a range of services to people over 50, including support at home, a community hub and dementia and intergenerational projects.

Charity CEO Vanessa Wood said: “Age UK Thanet is very happy and appreciative to receive a cheque of £3,000 from the Mayor of Margate’s Ball which took place last November. Thank you very much to the Mayor and Mayoress of Margate Mick and Shirley Tomlinson who work tirelessly to support the people in Margate.

“This money will make such a difference to all our clients and volunteers who access our Community Hub – from a one off appointment to receiving a long term service.  Services like Buddy Box where our drivers deliver a home cooked two-course meal to some of our most vulnerable clients living in Thanet – many who see no one else apart from a smiley driver with a lovely hot meal that day.”
