Mum’s QEQM fundraiser to bring Christmas treats to midwives and emergency staff

Amy has drafted in her son, and her nephew, to help with deliveries

A kind-hearted mum is aiming to make sure NHS staff have a happy Christmas, with a little help from her friends.

Amy Morgan decided to order some snacks for midwives working over the festive season to enjoy, and posted her idea on a Thanet Facebook group.

Within hours she was inundated with offers of help and donations and was able to expand the project to include the emergency department at the QEQM as well.

She said: “I had the idea because one of my best friends will be working through the Christmas period as a midwife at QEQM, missing out on time with her family to help complete and support someone else’s.

“She finds it incredibly rewarding but I know it is also busy and I thought it would be good to be able to show them they are appreciated.

“I initially ordered some snacks but thanks to the generosity of everyone on the Facebook group we should have a lovely package for the maternity team and the emergency team as well.”

Amy has also recruited her son and her nephew to act as Father Christmases to help deliver the packages.

She said: “My nephew has spent a lot of his life in hospital and so we as a family are even more keen to say thank you and he is very excited to be involved.”

Amy is still recruiting people to help keep the wards well-stocked with treats over Christmas – if you can help, contact her on [email protected]
