Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 20s reported an attempted rape in Ramsgate.

The offence is reported to have taken place in a public toilet at the junction of Grange Road and St Augustine’s Road at around 1.10pm on Sunday (December 1).

The victim was uninjured and able to run from the suspect after he grabbed her inside the building.

Police Constable Nick Mayo, Kent Police’s investigating officer for the case, said: “We are following numerous lines of enquiry and arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the offence on the same date. He has since been bailed, pending further enquiries, until December 19.

“In addition to the arrest, we are reviewing CCTV from the area and have spoken with witnesses who came to the victim’s aid after hearing a disturbance taking place.

“We do however believe there may have been other members of the public in the area who could have information on what happened and I am appealing for them to contact us.

“We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who recalls seeing a man running in St Augustine’s Road while wearing a navy blue coat and tracksuit bottoms.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/229773/19.
